Reggie, Freddie, Henry, Dougie, Willy and (“please don’t call me Jackie”) Jack, are six young teens desperate to join the British Boy Scouts to do their bit for the home front.
After being rejected from the local Ronan Academy troop for being orphans, the six press on and form their own troop, the Scouts of St. Michael, named after the patron saint of their boys home. This doesn’t go over well with the village’s official Ronan Academy Boy Scout troop.
One night during an air raid, the six mount an unmanned anti-aircraft gun and shoot down an attacking dive bomber. Like lightning, news of their bravery and resourcefulness reaches the ears of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and even King George VI—as well as leaders of the newly formed Special Operations Executive—responsible for all action behind enemy lines.
A situation has arisen that demands immediate action—deep in the very heart of the lion's den itself—Nazi Germany. To answer this threat, the SOE has devised a daring plan.
The six brave boys may be the linchpin of the entire operation … if they’re willing to answer the king’s call.
"Morales artfully presents the decidedly implausible ... as tantalizingly possible. The plot crackles with high adventure and briskly paced action, and the Scouts are as resourceful as they are brave—the work reads like a Hardy Boys novel combined with historical fiction. The author’s writing is both accessible and buoyant, and sometimes achingly touching." - Kirkus Reviews
